Coleman said of Ibsen’s work, "In many ways he announced the beginning of a modern drama, because Nora, the protagonist, realized that as his story progressed, he had to completely reevaluate his marriage." however, this is not a story about marriage.

In Ibsen’s words,

"In two kinds of moral law, two kinds of conscience, men and women are very different from each other, they do not understand each other, and in reality the woman is judged in the male way."
